METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet stream features a ridge over Alaska. A series of weak ridges and troughs over northern Canada. And a weak ridge over Greenland. This is a cool pattern for Canada. The southern branch of the jet features a trough in the Gulf of Alaska. A flat ridge over the western U.S. with an embedded migratory trough over the northern Rockies. And a trough over the eastern U.S. Subtropical high pressure dominates the Gulf of Mexico and the southwest atlantic.
