METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet features a trough over Alaska. A blocking ridge over western Canada extending eastward across northern Canada into Greenland. To the south of this block a trough dominates central and eastern Canada. This is a cool pattern for much of Canada. The southern branch of the jet features a weak trough off the northwest coast of the U.S. A ridge over the western U.S. And a trough over the eastern U.S. Subtropical high pressure is located over Texas.
