METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet features a blocking ridge over Alaska extending across northwest Canada into northeast Canada. The polar vortex to the north of Alaska and northwest Canada. A trough over eastern Canada. And some ridging over Greenland. This is a cool patern for most of southern Canada except the far west. The southern branch of the jet features a trough in the eastern Gulf of Alaska. A ridge over the western U.S. And a trough over the central and eastern U.S. The center of moderate/strong subtropical ridging is over the southwest U.S.
