METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet features a blocking ridge over Alaska extending up towards the pole. The polar vortex over northern Canada centered over north-central Canada.. And some weak ridging over western Greenland. This is a variable temperatures pattern for Canada. The southern branch of the jet features a trough over southwest Canada. Ridges over the interior western and eastern US. And a trough between the ridges over the southern plains and Texas. Subtropical high pressure over the southwest states is of moderate intensity and in the northeast US is of strong intensity.
