METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet stream features a series of ridges and troughs extending from Alaska across northern Canada into Greenland. The position of the blocking ridges is currently over western Alaska and far northern Canada into northern Greenland. A trough is located over northeast Canada. This is a mild/cool pattern for Canada. The southern branch of the jet features a trough over the Gulf of Alaska, southwest Canada and the northwest US. A ridge over the Plains and western Midwest. And a trough along the east coast. Subtropical high pressure is located over the south-central US.
