METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet stream features a series of ridges and troughs extending from Alaska across northern Canada into Greenland. The position of the blocking ridges is currently over Alaska, northwest Canada and Greenland. This is a mild/cool pattern for Canada. The southern branch of the jet features a trough over the northwest US. A ridge over the south-central US. And a trough over the northeast US. Subtropical high pressure is located over the south-central US and the southwest atlantic.
