METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet features some ridging over Alaska. And the polar vortex over northern Canada and Greenland, centered over northeast Canada. This is a mild/warm pattern for western and eastern Canada, cool over central Canada. The southern branch of the jet features a blocking pattern in the western US with a ridge in the northwest US and a trough in the southwest US. A weak ridge over the southeast US. And a weak trough in the northeast US. Subtropical high pressure extends across central and southern Mexico and the Caribbean.
