METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet stream features a blocking ridge over northeast Siberia. The polar vortex over Alaska extrending across western and central Canada. And a ridge over eastern Canada and Greenland. This is a cool/cold weather pattern for western and central Canada, mild/cool in the east. The southern branch of the jet features a ridge in the eastern pacific. A trough in the western US. And a ridge in the eastern US. Subtropical high pressure dominates southern Mexico and the Caribbean.
