METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet stream features a strong blocking ridge between Siberia and Alaska. The polar vortex over Alaska, western and central Canada. And some ridging over eastern Canada extending into Greenland. This is a cool/cold pattern for most of Canada except the far east. The southern branch of the jet features a ridge in the eastern pacific extending into the southwest US. A trough over the northwest and north-central US. And some ridging in the eastern US and western atlantic. Subtropical high pressure dominates southern Mexico and the Caribbean.
