METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet stream features a ridge over northeast Siberia. A trough over Alaska. A blocking ridge over northwest Canada. A trough over northeast Canada. And a blocking ridge over Greenland and Iceland. This is a cold pattern for much of Canada. The southern branch of the jet features a ridge in the eastern pacific. A trough over the northwest US. And a broad west to east flow over the central and eastern US. Subtropical high pressure dominates southern Mexico, the Caribbean and the south atlantic.
