METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet stream features a blocking ridge between Siberia and Alaska extending up to the pole. A trough over northern Canada centered over north-central Canada. And a blocking ridge over southern Greenland and Iceland. This is a cold pattern for much of Canada except the far west. The southern branch of the jet features a trough in the eastern pacific.
