METEOROLOGICAL DISCUSSION

The northern branch of the jet stream features a trough over Alaska and northwest Canada. And some blocking ridge over north-central Canada and Greenland with a weak trough between the two ridges over northeast Canada. This is a cold pattern for much of Canada except the far west. The southern branch of the jet features a trough in the eastern pacific. A ridge over the western US. And a trough in the eastern US and western atlantic. Subtropical high pressure extends from southern Mexico eastward across the Caribbean and south atlantic.
