The old Kansas windmill could finally take no more. After decades of spinning to a wind that refused to stop blowing, in an increasingly fruitless effort to pull water from ground that could yield no more, the old windmill finally gave out, collapsing in a heap, never to be used again. Someone will drag its bones across the sunbaked land to its final resting place. No marker, no tribute to the fact that it gave its all against impossible odds.
