In Search of Cellulosic Fuel

HUGOTON, Kan., (DTN) -- Even in a part of Kansas familiar with oil drilling, feedlots and meatpacking plants, the cellulosic ethanol plant under construction sticks out on the Plains with its storage tanks, pipes and electric towers.

About 1,200 people work for various contractors right now at the $200 million construction site.

The ethanol industry in the U.S. waits in anticipation for the cellulosic ethanol plant being built in this southwest Kansas town, which is owned by Spanish renewable energy firm Abengoa S.A., a former parent company of DTN/The Progressive Farmer.
