Ethanol futures posted aggressive gains in both nearby and deferred contract months Monday based on additional concerns surrounding transportation issues. Weather conditions have not only limited train movements to the Eastern and Northern parts of the country, but have also kept rail cars from returning from those locations. This is creating a backlog of product at production facilities, and keeping ethanol from getting to needed areas. March futures led the market higher, posting a 7 cent gain early in the week. This pushed prices to $2.14 a gallon, and could add further support into the market over the near future.
