Ethanol futures closed mixed in a narrow trading range Wednesday following mixed movement in corn futures prices. The drawdown last week in ethanol stocks and lower production levels announced by the EIA report Wednesday morning had little impact in ethanol prices. Nearby ethanol prices have seemingly already factored in the slipping inventory situation and production losses based on the lower margins seen in the industry over the last few weeks. February ethanol futures posted a 0.7-cent-per-gallon loss, closing at $1.97 per gallon, while March futures struggled to move higher with a 0.5-cent-per-gallon gain.
