Ethanol futures surged sharply higher Thursday in front-month futures with traders focusing on tighter short-term supplies. Firm support slowly developed in corn prices with front-month futures posting a 6 cent gain Thursday. The need for immediate supplies around the holidays is causing December futures to rally sharply over the last couple of sessions. Contracts gained 14 cents per gallon Thursday and closed at $2.08 a gallon. The expectation that current demand will remain sustained over the short term is expected to help sustain additional buying through the rest of the week.
