The news from the EPA proposing to lower the 2014 ethanol mandate was a blow to the ethanol community. The proposal will be available for public comments for 60 days with reports that the final mandate will be made in the spring of 2014. Ethanol was been strong all week and moved higher than corn on lower domestic supplies and a report from the EIA that blending demand was at a four-month summertime high. December closed down 1 cent at $1.77 and January closed down nearly 2 cents at $1.65 per gallon.
