DTN Daily Ethanol Comments

Ethanol futures posted strong losses despite the ability of corn futures to move well off of session lows before closing bell. Corn prices closed mixed with September futures 2 cents higher and other nearby contracts slipping a fraction of a cent per gallon. August ethanol futures slipped the most, closing at $2.495 per gallon after a 3.1-cent-per-gallon loss. The combination of weak corn prices through most of the session as well as growing ethanol stocks have many ethanol buyers on the defensive late in the week. Other nearby contracts fell 0.8 to 1.5 cents per gallon lower Thursday.
