OMAHA (DTN) -- Though the U.S. biodiesel industry has been on a roll for two years, reaching all-time-high production numbers in 2013, a new bill introduced in the U.S. Senate Thursday to extend the industry's $1-per-gallon tax incentive that expired Dec. 31 would provide certainty to the industry, which has seen the credit expire three times in the past five years.

A bill introduced by Sens. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and Maria Cantwell, D-Wash., Thursday would renew and extend the credit through 2017.

Biodiesel continues to be a significant market for U.S. soybean farmers, accounting for about 26% of soybean oil.
