PED Impact on Pork Market Uncertain

OMAHA (DTN) -- The global pork industry had a generally good year in 2013 and lower feed costs will be positive for farmers' margins 2014, although the effect of porcine epidemic diarrhea virus is still unknown in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.

Rabobank's Food and Agribusiness Research team recently reported on the global pork industry and the outlook for 2014 was generally positive. The bank's five-nation finished hog price index averaged 151, an increase of 10% over 2012 and the highest level in the last five years.
