As Abraham Lincoln feared, the U.S. has truly become a house divided. Not for the reasons he supposed during the then-senatorial-candidate's campaign, but for entirely different reasons. And it's interesting that this division happens the day after the holiday he later established by presidential proclamation in 1863 -- Thanksgiving.
