COLUMBIA, Mo. (DTN) -- The withering summer heat has subsided, but for Nebraska cattlemen such as Chris Hayes of Osceola, Neb., the drought of 2012 continues to march on.

"We still haven't had any moisture to speak of," said Hayes, who manages a feedlot and farms 1,300 acres. "It's awfully dry."

Nebraskans are facing some of the driest conditions in the country with 77% of the state under exceptional drought conditions -- the worst designation on the weekly Drought Monitor map. Ninety-six percent of the state falls under extreme to exceptional drought.
