The week before Christmas in the already laid-back world of cable television must be one big party. Producers and technicians certainly don't allow professional creativity or imaginative programming to get in their way of spiking the eggnog and hanging mistletoe.

As far as I can tell, all 843 channels are loaded with yuletide marathons, relentless loops ranging from the heartwarming "It's A Wonderful Life" to the heartburning "Ernest Saves Christmas."

How many times can even the lumpiest couch potato watch Clark Griswold string enough Christmas lights to trip the breaker at the local nuclear plant?

Well, maybe one more time.
