QUESTION:

Can Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) cause the same disease in people?

ANSWER:

There is no evidence that bovine viral diarrhea, or BVD, can cause disease in people, but there are many diseases that can pass between animals and humans. These are called zoonotic diseases, or zoonoses.

Zoonoses can be caused by many infectious agents. Ringworm, a fungal disease, is perhaps the most common zoonosis. Examples of bacterial zoonoses include brucellosis, leptospirosis, salmonella, E. coli, tuberculosis and anthrax.
