DECATUR, Ill. (DTN) -- Western corn rootworm upped the ante in 2013 by feasting on first-year corn. While regions affected appear specific to Illinois, entomologists are urging those farming in all western corn rootworm zones to carefully plan a 2014 strategy.

Sean Evans, Monsanto's technology development representative for insect management, told DTN the past year was evidence that this pest should never be underestimated.
