OMAHA (DTN) -- In typical fashion, the U.S. winter wheat crop has some favorable and some not-so-favorable conditions as it begins the long cycle that will culminate in harvest next summer. Much of that yin and yang has to do with less-than-adequate soil moisture in much of the Southern Plains and Midwest.

"In regards to wheat planting, dry conditions will allow for fast progress," said DTN Senior Analyst Darin Newsom.
