Kansas 2013 Wheat Crop Seen at 313.1 MB

KANSAS CITY (DTN) -- Scouts on the Hard Red Winter Wheat Tour estimate Kansas will produce 313,098,858 bushels of grain this year. The average of their 570 yield stops came in at 41.1 bpa, down eight bushels from a year ago. The yield estimate is the tour's fourth-highest in the last 10 years.

"I think the drought probably caused more grief than the freeze," said Ben Handcock, organizer of the tour and director of the Wheat Quality Council. He estimates that only a third or less of the crop in western Kansas received enough moisture to recover.
