When Bert Dixon's boys hit the soybean field, kudzu bugs better head for the thickets. With his soybean crop reaching an important period of pod fill, Bert and his three sons are scouting their Greene County, N.C., fields in search of yield-robbing insects.

Dixon captured the 2012 North Carolina Soybean Yield Contest championship with 92.5 bushels per acre, and his two oldest sons, Hardy, 22, and Hunter, 20, plan to continue the family tradition at E.H.
