DECATUR, Ill. (DTN) -- The first plant biotechnology trait patents begin to sunset following the 2014 crop year, starting with Monsanto's Roundup Ready (RR1) soybean trait. Late last week, major seed and agricultural biotech providers signed the first of two agreements designed to establish a framework to maintain important regulatory and stewardship commitments at patent expiration. The goal is to avoid trade disruption in important export markets as traits transition from patented to generic.
