SAO PAULO, Brazil (DTN) -- Brazil's fertilizer industry is scaling back its bold expansion plans amid uncertainty over the nutrients' demand outlook.

Gone is the talk of self-sufficiency. In its place, analysts place bets on which projects might be suspended.

"With fertilizer markets in generally bearish mode, it may be inevitable that some investment projects are put back," George Bonifacio e Sousa, president of the Brazilian Fertilizer Suppliers Association (ANDA), said at a recent conference in Sao Paulo.
