OMAHA (DTN) -- As spring advances, Randy Main is excited for year two of his fertilizer condo plan to commence. The Buffalo Center, Iowa, fertilizer retailer built and opened his first UAN "pod" last spring. He'll unveil a second pod this season in time for planting.

As the name implies, a fertilizer condo is a facility where farmers can store their own UAN32 for a fee without having the expense and hassle of building and maintaining on-farm storage. Main's pod consists of a mixing facility with a secondary containment system and now two, 1-million-gallon storage tanks for UAN32.
