AN Advisory Issued

OMAHA (DTN) -- Sixteen years after issuing an advisory on the explosive hazard posed by ammonium nitrate, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and two other federal agencies issued a detailed new advisory. This follows the April 17 AN explosion at West Fertilizer Co. that killed 15 people and injured some 200 in West, Texas.

The new advisory issued Aug. 30 includes far more detail about potential AN risks than did a 1997 EPA advisory. It warns storage facilities not to store AN near some agriculture products.
