BEIJING (DTN) -- China expects to export more fertilizer in 2014, thanks to changes the country's government has made in fertilizer export tax regulation.

The new policy, released in mid-December, aims to balance production and demand, to protect domestic demand of farmers in the peak season and to release extra production exports to support producers.

The changes divide the year into "peak season" when domestic farming practices need more fertilizer and "off-season" when domestic demand is lower.
