(Dow Jones) -- Ukraine grain exports got off to a swift start this marketing year up 73% on the same July 1 to Oct. 15 period last year, the agriculture ministry reported Tuesday.

In the period, the first 15 weeks of the season, 6.64 million metric tons of grain were exported, the ministry said.

The high volumes of exports so far this year are due to the large amount of grain left over from the previous marketing year and the earlier start of harvesting this year as grain ripened soon due to dry, hot weather. However, as yields are lower ...
