Democrats Push on Farm Bill

OMAHA (DTN) -- Senior Democrats on both the House and Senate ag committees said Thursday they won't accept an extension of the 2008 farm law in the lame-duck session.

Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, told Iowa reporters on Thursday he is hopeful that a farm bill could be completed by Congress before the end of the year. That would require the House of Representatives to bring its own committee bill to the floor and debate the legislation.

"Bring the bill out, let the House do its work, vote on it and we'll meet you in conference," Harkin said.
