Tighter Payment Limits Opposed

WASHINGTON (DTN) --- New commodity farm-payment limits have become a battle in the farm-bill conference talks despite the House and Senate having essentially the same language in their respective versions of the farm bill.

As Congress reconvened Monday, the farm bill conference continued in closed-door sessions. Lobbying intensified on some of the contentious differences between the House and the Senate-passed bills.

One lobbyist suggested that the bill could be finished this week, although House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas, R-Okla., who is chairing the conference, told a Capitol Hill newspaper on Friday he would not promise a conference report before ...
