DES MOINES (DTN) -- In the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's absence, a public hearing on proposed Renewable Fuel Standard cuts took on the feel of a campaign rally Thursday as state officials, ethanol industry representatives, farmers and others from across the Midwest took aim at EPA's proposal.

The Iowa hearing came about after the EPA and other Obama administration agencies turned down a request for an official hearing on a proposal to cut the RFS by some 3 billion gallons for 2014 -- the first across-the-board cut of the mandate since the RFS' passage in 2005 and renewal in 2007. ...
