USDA Readies for Shutdown

WASHINGTON (DTN) -- Federal workers shut down for the night Monday uncertain if they would be going back to work on Tuesday.

By late afternoon Monday, members of Congress from both chambers and parties had taken to the microphone to declare a short-term resolution to a federal shutdown is in reach -- if only the other side yields.

But throughout the day, there appeared little give and more belief that more than 2 million civilian employees would face a furlough without agency funding to continue operating the federal government.
