McCarthy Embraces Farmers

DES MOINES, Iowa (DTN) -- For years, U.S. farmers have been starving for a good relationship with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. They got a taste of what they've been craving when new EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy threw them some red meat Thursday at the Iowa State Fair.

McCarthy, who has been on the job just three weeks, feasted on Iowa pork and attempted to strike a new tone with agriculture during a speech at an environmental awards ceremony attended by Iowa farmers and various state officials including Gov. Terry Branstad.
