Bill Would End Ethanol RFS

NEW YORK (DTN) -- Two senior United States senators introduced a bill Thursday to eliminate the "corn ethanol mandate within the Renewable Fuel Standard," according to a news release.

Sens. Diane Feinstein, D-Calif., and Tom Coburn, R-Okla., said the policy promoting corn-based ethanol was misguided because it pushes food prices higher while not benefiting the environment.

The "Corn Ethanol Mandate Elimination Act of 2013" also has the support of Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine; Bob Corker, R-Tenn.; Kay Hagan, D-N.C.; Jeff Flake, R-Ariz.; Joe Manchin, D-W.Va.; Jim Risch, R-Idaho; and Patrick Toomey, R-Pa.
