PROPOSED LEGISLATION WOULD CUT FEDERAL CROP INSURANCE SUBSIDIES

Farmers would see their federal crop and revenue insurance subsidies cut significantly under legislation introduced this week in both houses of Congress.

Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., and Rep. John Duncan, R-Tenn., introduced companion bills that would cut $40.1 billion from the crop insurance program by returning the federal insurance premium subsidy to the same level that was in effect before passage of the Agriculture Risk Protection Act of 2000.
