Senate May Act on Debt Limit Bill Today

The Senate today is expected to take up the House-approved bill temporarily suspending the government's borrowing limit, according to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. If approved, the bill would suspend the debt ceiling through May 18 and reset it at a higher level May 19 to account for debt the Treasury Department issued in the interim. Experts say the bill would effectively allow Treasury to have borrowing capacity until late July or August.
