STREATOR, Ill. (DTN) -- The American Petroleum Institute, an oil and gas trade association, sent a letter to the Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday saying it would sue the EPA if the agency failed to issue the 2014 renewable volume obligations for the Renewable Fuel Standard by Nov. 30, as required by law.

"The American Petroleum Institute ("API") hereby submits this Notice of Intent to Sue pursuant to section 304(b)(1) of the Clean Air Act, 42 U.S.C. 7064(b)(1), and 40 C.F.R Part 54," wrote Harry Ng, vice president and general counsel of API to EPA administrator Gina McCarthy.
