Sales of August fluid milk products declined 2.7% compared to last year. Sales of conventional milk products declined 3.1% while sales of organic milk products increased 4.8%. The reason total product sales are lower is due to the fact volume sales of conventional products is significantly higher than organic sales. Conventional whole milk sales declined 1.2%, flavored whole milk sales increased 9.1%, and reduced fat milk declined 2.4%. Low fat declined 4.3%; fat-free skim milk fell 8.8%; flavored fat-reduced milk sales declined 1.8% while buttermilk sales increased 1.9%.
