USDA released the first full milk production report since the sequestration earlier this year. This report showed milk production, production per cow, and cow numbers. Milk production in the top 23 states rose 1.1% over last year. Milk production in all 50 states increased 1%. Production per cow was 12 pounds above last year at 1,741 pounds. The number of cows on farms is 33,000 head more than last year, but 9,000 less than August. Third quarter milk production is 1.5% higher than the same period last year.
