Some manufacturers in the Central region report milk receipts are beginning to decline seasonally. In fact, some would like additional milk volumes to meet near-term cheese orders. May milk production was strong and a bit higher than anticipated, but now weather is turning warmer, affecting cow comfort and components reducing cheese yield. Some milk is beginning to be diverted to dryers due to greater price strength for nonfat dry milk. Dairy cattle slaughter for the month of May declined from April and was lower than last year.
