Now that most schools are back in session after spring break, there is less milk being offered at a discount. Higher milk receipts are being handled easily. Components are holding well allowing for strong cheese yield. Higher cheese and butter prices have provided sufficient interest to absorb extra loads of milk that may be offered to the market. Some plants are actively seeking extra milk in order to produce more product. Packaged fluid milk sales in January declined 1.4 percent from last year. Whole milk sales slipped 0.5 percent.
