Milk

Milk production in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions is very strong as spring weather improves. This perception may be somewhat skewed as lower bottling demand has more milk showing up at manufacturing plants. Nevertheless, spring flush is beginning with milk supply expected to expand. Profitability certainly has not improved as the March milk/feed ratio declined to 1.47, down from 1.52 last month and down from 1.48 a year ago. A tight milk/feed ratio has not reduced milk production over the past year as was expected.
