Milk production is contracting. January milk production was revised to show an increase of 0.6% from the previous year. February milk production was up just 0.1% once the adjustment was made for leap day. Continued high feed prices and dwindling feed supplies have slowed production. This trend is likely to continue, but it will be difficult to follow from now on due to this being the final milk production report to be released by USDA.
